Floris Heemskerk

A composer from Amsterdam, captivated by music’s ability to speak where words fall short. Grounded in classical and jazz influences, Floris strives to create compositions that resonate deeply, aiming to connect with listeners on a profound emotional level.
During his Film Composition studies at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU), Floris took on an internship in Los Angeles. Here he worked for Vidjay Beerepoot, A Dutch film composer that moved to Los Angeles, known for his work for clients such as Disney and Sony. The experience gave him hands-on training in client relations, administration, and ultimately programming the synths for his latest film project: Panda Bear in Africa, premiering in 2024.

Back in the Netherlands Floris continued working on various film projects, like scoring the soundtrack for Tweezaam, a short film made by theater students. He went on to compose a live score for Xixiangji, performed at Amsterdam’s Eye Film Museum by the Keuris Ensemble as part of HKU Meets Eye.

A personal milestone, Niemand Thuis, explores the intricacies of the bond between a daughter, and her father that is going through a depression. The film ended up winning two Awards at the Dutch Film Festival (NFF). Later that same year Floris got a chance to let his love for jazz shine through in the score for The Biznizz Kid, a pilot episode from the Dutch public broadcaster NPO, which premiered at the Cinekid Festival in 2024.

Currently, Floris is working on animation projects. One of them, set to release in 2025 is called VOID, a short film with futuristic visuals telling a story about the subject of mental health problems. His upcoming documentary score for Aap tot Aap, set to debut in 2025, will blend synthesizers and orchestration and explores the valuable insights apes can give us on our own emotions as humans. Whether through experimental compositions like Tide or his cinematic scores, Floris is dedicated to creating music that makes you feel something, something that can’t be put into words.
